HAPKIDO PHILOSOPHY OF EXISTENCE Welcome to your philosophy and culture lesson for today from the USA Hapkido Union. I am Instructor Ma, your USA Hapkido Union language, culture, and character development teacher. Today’s Lesson is sponsored by www.USAHapkidoUnion.org In today’s lesson we discuss Hapkido philosophy of existence.
This series is to teach us some of the reasons that martial artists should study philosophy. This lesson comes from the book, “Be a Life Champion: The Martial Arts Way”. Let’s begin. Existence. Who hasn’t questioned their existence in some point in time? This is a fundamental question in the study of philosophy. In many ways, martial arts help the martial artist answer this very question. Prior to practicing martial arts, many students feel lost, lack of direction in their lives, or feel unfulfilled. Once they learn martial arts, they close this gap. In fact, many begin to recognize the importance of their existence and their purpose because of martial art practice. Although it trains their bodies, it more importantly it trains them to appreciate their own existence in the world. Studying philosophy and existence is one way to broaden that understanding more clearly, allowing the martial artist to continually improve and progress. To the Hapkido practitioner, existence is a principle distinct from its philosophy, in no case does this existence of a thing indicate anything about whether that thing really is.
