HAPKIDO PHILOSOPHY OF KNOWLEDGE Welcome to your philosophy and culture lesson for today from the USA Hapkido Union. I am Instructor Ma, your USA Hapkido Union language, culture, and character development teacher. Today’s Lesson is sponsored by www.USAHapkidoUnion.org In today’s lesson we discuss Hapkido philosophy of knowledge.
This series is to teach us some of the reasons that martial artists should study philosophy. This lesson comes from the book, “Be a Life Champion: The Martial Arts Way”. Let’s begin. Knowledge. The philosophical quest for knowledge is one that we see repeatedly in movies, books, articles, and in discussions. Knowledge allows a pathway to success. Everyone seeks it every day in some shape or form. Clearly, knowledge of martial art skills is a pathway to martial art success. As the martial artist grows in their learning and capabilities, they also grow in their knowledge. This knowledge is carried forth into life. One who earns a black belt carries forth the knowledge that if they excel in martial arts they can excel in life. This becomes part of their personal philosophy from their knowledge base. Studying why knowledge is important in philosophy helps the martial artist recognize the importance of knowledge in both their practice and their life. It can never be taken from them. Knowledge and martial art practice are both lifelong endeavors. As Hapkido practitioners we learn that the theory of knowledge is the study of nature, origin, and scope of knowledge, justification, the rationality of belief, and various related issues. This is important because it gives us a better understanding of all things, not just those related to our art. In this knowledge we can apply our daily Hapkido lessons to other real life problems that we face.
