About the World Hapkido Union

Welcome to the Official Website of the Western Branch of the World Hapkido Union, which was founded in February, 2020.

Organizational Overview

The World Hapkido Union is the recognized International World Leader for Hapkido. While the World Hapkido Union Western Branch is the Western World’s official body for World Hapkido Union events and organizational duties.

World Hapkido Union Western Branch is responsible for establishing National Representatives of the World Hapkido Union in the Western Hemisphere.

World Hapkido Union Western Branch is the Recognized Unifying Body focused on both traditional and the sport venue of the Ancient Hapkido roots for All.

A Comprehensive Dan Grade Training Syllabus and Rank Requirements is available to registered members.

Mission Statement:

The Mission of the World Hapkido Union Western Branch is to unify Hapkido people in the Western Hemisphere with a foundation of mutual respect for all styles or systems of Hapkido and to provide services and guidance to foster Technical Excellence, Fellowship and Character Development. World Hapkido Union Western Branch is responsible for the selection and management of the National Branch Members and Teams participating in the World Hapkido Championships and National Championships in the Western Hemisphere.

The World Hapkido Union Western Branch is committed to effective communication and continuous improvement to foster technical excellence, an environment of trust and teamwork which promotes personal and organizational growth and achievement of clearly prioritized goals.

Goals and Aims:

  1. Preserve and promote Hapkido as a worldwide membership organization, for those who desire to participate in an officially sanctioned, Korea-based traditional Korean Hapkido governing arts body.
  2. Provide members the opportunity to engage in officially sanction Hapkido training, education, and activities, conducted at the official standards of the world headquarters.
  3. Allow members the opportunity to participate in learning experiences and activities that put into practice those principles and teachings of Hapkido’s founding fathers intended.
  4. Allow members worldwide the opportunity to obtain the same training, rank recognition, Master and Grandmaster certification, instructor licensing, and school licensing, irrespective of race, religion, or nationality.
  5. Provide leadership and serve as the official resource to our Hapkido community members worldwide through the development of newsletters, training manuals, educational courses, and modern media.
  6. Establish and maintain a resident training center in the Republic of Korea; and, a training facility in and for any geographic region in which the membership base will sustain such a facility.
  7. Provide an integrated curriculum which supports a holistic learning experience in the full spectrum of education and training needed to become a true Hapkido Master and practitioner; and, which is underwritten by academic authority.
  8. Act as a facilitator for practitioners of other Hapkido organizations, or with impaired credentials, to become a part of the official traditional Korean Hapkido community, with valid credentials based upon demonstrated competence.
  9. Serve as the representative, within the Republic of Korea, of the worldwide foreign community of traditional Korean Hapkido practitioners, trained to Korean standards and holding legitimate Korean credentials, advising and informing the officials within Korea as to the needs and concerns of the foreign practitioners.
  10. Preserve a single worldwide standard for the traditional Korean Military Art of Hapkido, a standard set by the World Hapkido Union world headquarters and maintained by official branch schools worldwide.
